Shootout at Wadala is a 2014 Indian action-crime film. This blockbuster film has been written and directed by Sanjay Gupta. This film stars John Abraham, Manoj Bajpayee, Tusshar Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Sonu Sood. It is a prequel to the 2006 film Shootout at Lokhandwala. This film is based on a real incident. Manya Surve was the most educated don of Mumbai. In the film, Manya, an honest student, goes to jail despite being innocent for murdering a gangster who attacked her brother, Bhargav, who eventually dies in jail. Soon afterwards, Manya escapes from jail and forms his own gang to take revenge. Based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia in 2001, the film dramatizes the encounter by Bombay Police in which gangster Manya Surve was shot dead. It took place on 11 January 1983 at the junction near Dr. Ambedkar College, Wadala, Bombay. Shootout at Wadala was released on 3 May 2014 and received mixed reviews from critics. It grossed over ₹83 crore (US$10.2 million) against a budget of ₹66 crore (US$8.1 million).
